About Allerton Waste Recovery Park
Allerton Waste Recovery Park is an exciting new facility which will bring together state-of-the-art technologies to make the most of the North Yorkshire's and the city of York's rubbish.
The new facility will reduce the amount of household waste going to landfill in the county by 90%. Diverting this waste away from landfill means we can use it to generate enough energy to power the equivalent of 40,000 homes.
Construction has now begun and this is expected to be completed in 2017. After this the facility will go through commissioning and rigorous testing before it is fully operational in early 2018.
Amey will then operate the facility on behalf of North Yorkshire County Council and the City of York Council for 25 years.
